A GREAT OUTCOME

I just received the following e-mail from HSN.  I’m so happy that they are removing the pin.  It’s very nice to know there are companies with ethics!  Way to go HSN!  Congratulations to Nathalie and Fernand of Hanna Bernhard.  Thanks to all the other bloggers and readers that re-tweeted this story.  It’s great to know we can make a difference!

“Iris Apfel’s collection for HSN is intended to share her interpretations of some of her vintage jewelry pieces. Mrs. Apfel explained to HSN that, like many of her pieces, she purchased her toucan brooch from a flea market and believed it was a vintage piece. As we have discovered that this is not a vintage piece, the brooch will be removed from the collection.”

A Flea Market? Either way she still took the design from someone, but whatever I’m glad they removed the pin!

Wait she is in the picture with Hanna wearing the same brooch….its clear that she is liar and doesn’t want to own up to it! either way I’m glad it was removed from HSN!

Im glad HSN removed it, it wouldn’t be right to Hanna Bernard who’s put so much work into it just to have it copied!

That is a really great outcome! So glad they did their homework (even though it was almost too late) and did the RIGHT thing! It’s wonderful that you and Jane took a stand for your friend, even if it wasn’t easy.

    What Michell of Chellbelz said.
And I want to know what kind of flea markets she shops at to find stuff like that…unless she considers Sothebys to be a flea market.

@ Nikki: ha ha. Sothebys, Flea Market for Millionaires

In all seriousness, in addition to probably not being true, saying Iris got the pin at a “flea market” is insulting to the Hanna Bernhard brand. A flea market implies a place that has boxes of costume jewelry and usually only accepts cash— I for one have never brought enough money to a flea market to buy a Hanna Bernhard piece!

And doesn’t Iris collect Hanna Bernhardt jewelry? I’ve seen her photographed wearing what I think is a Hanna Bernhardt parrot as well . . . Doubtful she or no one else realized what she had on her hands.

I’m glad they took the piece out of the collection, but I think they owe Hanna Bernhard a much better apology than that. Even if Iris did get the toucan at a flea market, it was the responsibility of HSN to find out where the piece originated.

Catherine yes she collects it! If you go and lookon Jane’s Blog there is a picture of IRIS with the broch on hugging Hanna! SO shame on her lying! HSN probably made it up and she didn’t even bother to say…oh this is not going to work.

Excellent news Judy, as everyone is saying a likely story I think I read on Nathalies blog that she tried to speak to Iris and she hung up on her! I am so sick and tired of seeing original designs being mass produced and this is for the big fashion houses who I guess have come to expect it. But for their small, personal brand it was a big insult. Bravo for you and Jane for making this so publicised and giving us all the chance to help stick up for the little guys. x
