BEFORE AND AFTER
Manny Rodriguez snapped this photo of my bedroom for the Rue Magazine shoot. Needless to say, we didn’t use it. A little bit sad, right? Just not working at all. The lamps aren’t right, and there is a huge void on either side of the sofa–kind of depressing. This half of my room needed a makeover–stat! My room is huge, and filling up the space has proven to be a challenge. I am not a minimalist!
What do you think now? I found some great vintage bookcases to fill the void, and they also allowed me to unpack all of my books from the garage. I moved the old lamps to Jane’s spare bedroom at her place where they look much better, and added new ones that were a bit smaller and more modern. Much cozier!
(Notice how the dogs are a permanent accessory on my sofa?? The only time they’re not on my sofa is when they are in my bed.)
I found a pair of these chairs at Again and Again and loved them, but the fabric had to go! I had this roll of lush raspberry velvet in my garage, and–Voila!!
Now the pair sits at the end of my bed. Much better!
I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend!

Don’t you love it when you find fabric in the garage? It’s like a goldmine if you hate to toss things (like me).
Get job and nice to see the dogs are “chipping” in and doing their part in the transformation.
Happy Labor Day
I love your place- cozy, rich and lux feel without being pretentious. I agree on the “not a minimalist”. I’m in Seattle, which seems to worship minimalism, and every time I see another Sunday spread featuring the same wood, glass, rock, I just feel bored to tears. Thank you for reminding other parts of the country have some imagination.
Is that a gold seal at the end of your bed? I love that touch!
Sing–Yes it is.
love what u did with the chairs! love velvet, and the color fuchsia!!

Fabulous! It is phenomenal to see how a few key items can create a fantastic transformation. Great job!
Very creative and beautiful.
Is it hard to reupholster chairs?I want to do the same thing with a pair of chairs that I have and I really don’t know how to start.I’ll have to do some research.
